Day 89 – Happy New Year! (Lima, Peru)

31 Dec

Nice breakfast.  Calling relatives.  Vadim in the gym.  Gintaras washed his gear.  Vadim took his racing boots for cleaning at a local shoe shine store, forgot to take out 200 USD; lunch at Italian place (carpaccio, sea bass, pasta with ground meet); drank two bottles of sparkling German and Italian wine to celebrate the new year in Moscow and an hour later in Lithuania; cab to Asia in the evening (1.5 hours each way); cab driver fighting with concierge; Asia restaurants, shops, nice parilla (soup, lamb chops); GS1200 parked in BMW exhibition area outside; one big open air disco; VIP standing tickets; a lot of young people; no champagne, people bringing their own alcohol; rum with … instead; dancing floor; large round tables for 10 people; latin music, final countdown; heading back home at 1 am

Day 88 – Washing the Gear (Lima, Peru)

Sleep late, nice breakfast, haircut in the morning, meet Yuri, friends of Gintaras from graduate school, at 1:00 pm, Yuri drove VW Touareg ($75K in Lima), La Mar restaurant, 50 min wait, nice seafood, pisco sour drink, chatting for 4 hours, Gaston, stopped at supermarket for some champagne, nap back at the hotel, Vadim washed his gear and helmet…dirt…sand…rocks fell out of gear and helmet

Went to massages at Smik Spa… at night, dry sauna, eucalyptus wet sauna, pool, Jacuzzi, water at the bar, 1.5 hour classic and deep tissue massage….very nice…slept beautifully.

Day 87 – Welcome to the Capital (Lima, Peru)

29 Dec

Left on time.  Got lost and separated in Chimbote (road construction).  Filled tank in Casma.  Vadim ran out of gas in the middle of desert…next gas station was 69 km…found a gallon of gas for $10USD…was happy to pay it to get to the next station.

Gintaras stopped by police – required insurance.  No lunch.  Desert, dunes, deserted beaches, beautiful, fog near Lima, crazy traffic in Lima…Vadim almost got ran over by a bus on a turn, police tried to stop Gintaras but he never stopped, found hotel, Vadim was already there, parked the bikes, very tired, traditional restaurant Las Brujas de Cachiche (seafood soup, chicha morada, sea bass, beef heart and mushroom anticuchos), back to the hotel, some musicians and vendors in the park.

Day 86 – Rest Day (Trujillo, Peru)

28 Dec

Resting in Trujillo.  Walking around.  Stopping at laundry.  Lunch at Italian place (expensive shrimp soup).  Buying some fruits in the central market.  Vadim looking for a gym.  Eating fast food chicken for dinner. Concert in the central square at night.  Buying some water and bad chocolate in Metro.  Back to hotel.  Booking hotel in Lima.   Vadim watching TV will 2 am.

Day 85 – High Speeds in Desert (Trujillo, Peru)

Left Mancora, going through the desert to Trujillo, good road high speed (90-100 mph / 150-160kmp), saw safari vehicles in the desert.

Strong wind, nice ceviche lunch near Piura, arriving to Trujillo, had to hire taxi to get us to our hotel – Los Conquistadores hotel, nice central square, street of opticians…literally stores for optics only, dinner at Mochica (pork), walking down pedestrian Pisaro Ave., casinos, square full of people, new year trees.
